soda fired vase no. 2

| /
One of a kind, wheel thrown vase made from stoneware clay, with soda fired glaze. Measures approximately 3” DIA 6”H.

Soda firing is an atmospheric firing technique where Sodium Bi Carbonate and Sodium Carbonate are added into the kiln when it’s at its peak firing temperature. The extreme temperature causes the soda to vaporize, creating its own glaze, which is then carried on the flame throughout the kiln.

In this firing, the sodium was introduced after about 2 days of continuous firing, with the kiln temperatures reaching well over 2000°F. The kiln was then left to cool for another 2 days.

This vase has an internal liner glaze however use caution when placing on delicate surfaces, as condensation may occur.
