My name is Julie-Anne, and I’m the sole owner/operator/maker of FRNGE thus far. So, I’m Dakelh and Metis on my mother’s side, but I wasn’t able to engage much with the culture growing up because my mother was adopted into a non-indigenous family, and thus she didn’t grow up with it to teach it to me. I learned how to bead in the third grade from my Indigenous school counsellor- I literally spent every lunch hour with her for months.

I didn’t realize it then but it was so special to have someone like her give me little pieces of her culture and it helped to connect me with mine. I picked beading up again as a hobby and to facilitate my connectedness with my roots in 2017 and instantly fell in love with it again. Fast forward a few years and here is FRNGE!

The inspo for FRNGE is earthy and celestial. I wanted the designs to serve as an ode to the magic in our natural world- the sun, the stars, all the specks of light in between.
